What's Love Got to Do with It? (2022)

What’s Love Got to Do with It? is a British romantic comedy film directed by Shekhar Kapur and written by Jemima Khan. It stars Lily James, Shazad Latif, Emma Thompson, and Sajal Aly.

The film follows Zoe, a documentary filmmaker who decides to make a film about her childhood friend and neighbor Kaz, a British-Pakistani man who agrees to an arranged marriage with a woman from Pakistan. Zoe accompanies Kaz to Lahore, where he meets his bride-to-be, Maymouna, for the first time. Along the way, Zoe learns more about Pakistani culture and traditions, and questions her own views on love and marriage.

Zoe and Kaz have different opinions on romance and compatibility. Zoe believes in finding the perfect person and falling in love, while Kaz believes in making a marriage work with someone chosen by his parents. However, as they spend more time together, they start to develop feelings for each other, which complicates their situation.

Meanwhile, Maymouna is not the traditional and conservative girl that Kaz expected. She is rebellious and adventurous, and she has a secret that could jeopardize the wedding. She also has doubts about marrying a stranger, but she feels pressured by her family and society.

The film is a humorous and heartwarming story about cross-cultural relationships, family expectations, and finding happiness in unexpected places. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2022 and was released in the United Kingdom in January 2023.

The programme starts 30 minutes after doors open and the main feature 60 minutes after doors open.
