Barbie (2023)
“Barbie” is a 2023 fantasy comedy film directed by Greta Gerwig and written by Noah Baumbach. The film is based on the eponymous fashion dolls by Mattel and is the first live-action Barbie film after numerous computer-animated films and specials.
The film stars Margot Robbie as the title character, Barbie, and Ryan Gosling as Ken. The story begins in Barbieland, a matriarchal society populated by different versions of Barbies, Kens, and a group of discontinued models. Barbie, the most popular of all the Barbies in Barbieland, begins experiencing an existential crisis.
Barbie’s life takes a dramatic turn when she begins to experience human emotions and existential thoughts, leading her to question her perfect world. She wakes up with bad breath, has a cold shower, her waffles are burnt, and even the milk is expired. This leaves Barbie questioning her perfection.
Driving out of Barbie Land and into California with Ken (Ryan Gosling), the two set out on a journey of self-discovery, experiencing life without perfection. Trouble follows as the CEO of Mattel (Will Ferrell) aims to put Barbie back in her box, silencing her journey and getting his chance in the spotlight.
The programme starts 30 minutes after doors open and the main feature 60 minutes after doors open.
